Commercial flower grower

Greenhouse and field tulip production

The Farm

Demetri Balint started the Greengable Farm in 1988 on Peoria Road in Corvallis. In 2002 he moved his operation to Philomath, where the Greengable Gardens are located. The Farm produces tulips, daffodils, irises, lilies, peonies, etc. There are two basic operations: greenhouse and field.

The four greenhouses are used from Thanksgiving to Mother’s Day. The major crop is tulips and daffodils. The greenhouses produce yearly over million stems.

The field production starts with daffodils in February. They are followed by tulips in March and April, then irises, later in spring  peonies and lilies. The field production is moved through the Willamette Valley, since the flowers can be grown in the same soil only once every five years. Demetri farms about 40 acres. The fields produce over two million stems of tulips and daffodils each year.

Majority of the flowers are sold throughout the country by a flower broker. Good portion of them are also sold to local florists, the Greengable Garden shop, and the local Farmer’s Markets.
